Other than the fact that this train is bearing down on me...
Many of the trains parts use bearings reduce the wear on moving parts.  Just about anything mechanical does.  Roller bearings, sleeve bearing, needle bearings....  The Diesel-Electric Locomotive may have a few less moving parts that its earlier cousins because like a hybrid car, it transfers its energy to the wheels with electricity.
